We All Have Brain Fades

It’s a not easy being a jockey, with so many split decisions needing to be made and the wasting to make the ride but one of the biggest brain fades you will see in the game is when one takes off a lap early.

Jockey B. Nock experinced this on Friday at Wellington when he took off a lap early on Radegast. Worst part was he should of won in our opinion after the way the race panned out. Watch the replay

There has been a couple of beauties over the time like the one of Rhys Mcleod at Moonee Valley when he took off early in the C6 3000m race – which you can watch here.

Airstrike & Paperclip

Mr Racing feels we had the luck on our side with this race, and we got away with one here because Reliable Ruby was bolting for a run back up the fence and just couldn’t get the run when it needed.

Paperclip got the soft lead as predicted and was disappointing when it couldn’t hold on for a place after it had the sectionals and bias to suit throughout.

Airstrike jumped fairly and tucked in behind the speed; he got the lovely run through when Calescent started to drop off, eventually winning by 1.44 lengths.

Don’t like the form moving forward for this race.

Whisky Dream &
Prolific Melody

Mr Racing’s top selection, Whisky Dream, was heavily backed late, firming from 4.2 to start 2.4 best tote. We feel jockey J. Orman just got his timing wrong and there was no need to keep letting the horse slide, then grabbing hold and allowing the field to catch back up. In saying that he still got beat easily.

Prolific Melody’s performance was plain with the run it had throughout and the race shape to suit.

The winner Old Song is one to follow with the time quicker than the C5 on the day over the same distance and the beaten margins from 1st to 2nd 2.16 lengths and a further 4 lengths back to 4th.

Lisztomania

Mr Racing has got to put our hands up and say we got our form wrong with this race.

After beginning fairly jockey A.Morgan seemed to want to hold Lisztomania off the fence. The race wasn’t run to suit but the performance overall was poor and the the interupted prep may have been a cause to below par showing.

Multi – 3rd / 1st / 1st

Missed by one leg again—we just can’t seem to get that elusive multi home.

The Red Kite: Plain
We feel jockey A. Jones did a bit too much work from the gate when she didn’t need to, which overall effected the horse’s finishing ability. Not one we want to follow though.

Goldman: Can follow.
Mr Racing read the speed of this race correctly, and Goldman got a lovely run throughout, controlling the race tempo at will. He looks like a lovely stayer still on the up and has booked himself a ticket to the 2023 Melbourne Cup.

What You Need: Follow With Confidence
Gee, how impressive was he! He paraded much more forward on Saturday and still looked to have some in the tank late. Stable has said he is heading over to South Australia for the Group 1 Goodwood in a month’s time.
This race has been won by champions in the past, like Black Caviar and Take Over Target.

Soulcombe: HUGE!
The sectionals did not suit him at all and ran out of his skin coming from last at the 800m to only be beathen 2.75 lengths. Not sure where he goes next start but if found the right race with more tempo be hard to beat! Huge run.

Gai Waterhouse said her Listed Roy Higgins (2600m) victory with the lightly raced Goldman was made all the more special by the fact the horse originally came from New Zealand.

In an era where staying races are dominated by former European gallopers, Waterhouse said it was refreshing to see the Kiwi not only claim the listed race at just his seventh start but also clinch an invaluable ballot-free pass to run in next spring’s Melbourne Cup.

Anti Tank Missle Horse Report

Fenwick Farm report that this gelding is now completing his fourth week of his pre-training program and is coming along really well in his work. He continues to work on the sand track over 2500 metres daily. He also headed out to the grass track on Tuesday and Friday to complete 3 evens and pulled up in great order. He is a lovely big gelding and look forward to moving into the next step of his pre training regime. He will come in to our stable next week.
